NPR quits Twitter, becoming the first major U.S news media to do so

OpinionNPR quits Twitter, becoming the first major U.S news media to do so

NPR announced on Wednesday that it will no longer share content on Twitter after the social media platform labeled NPR “state-affiliated media,” a term also used to describe Russia- and China-based propaganda outlets, CNBC reported.

NPR was astonished by Twitter’s decision to label the company “state-affiliated media,” the outlet reported. Musk acknowledged in an email exchange with an NPR correspondent that the label may not have been accurate. Twitter then altered the account’s name of NPR to “government-funded media.”

It is the first prominent U.S. news organization to do so since Musk took control of Twitter late last year.
