Billionaire bucks and ‘bro vote’ appeal: Elon Musk campaigns for Trump

Breaking NewsBillionaire bucks and ‘bro vote’ appeal: Elon Musk campaigns for Trump

By Steven Overly

Tech billionaire Elon Musk publicly declared himself “dark MAGA,” joked that assassinating Democratic nominee Kamala Harris would be “pointless” and spread disinformation about the Biden administration’s hurricane relief efforts.

And that’s just in the past week.

As the election enters its most critical period, Musk is looking to leverage his starpower to turn out votes for former President Donald Trump and other Republicans. It’s a cause that has already prompted the world’s richest man to cut large checks to political groups, including Musk’s own America PAC.

But will Musk’s deep pockets and large online following make a difference in the swing states where Trump needs him most? After all, Musk’s transition from business mogul to political operative has made him a polarizing figure. And his penchant for controversy grabs headlines that distract from Trump himself.

POLITICO Tech host Steven Overly sits down with national political reporter Alex Isenstadt and Digital Future Daily author Derek Robertson to discuss Musk’s deepening political involvement and whether he can truly turn out the “bro vote” for Trump come Election Day. Listen to the full conversation.
