Two federal research agencies found 2022 one of the world’s hottest years on record due to rising ocean temperatures and near-record low sea ice cover in Antarctica.

NASA’s most recent annual analysis, last year was the fifth-warmest in recorded history, with global average surface temperatures that were 1.6 degrees Fahrenheit (or roughly 0.8 degrees Celsius) warmer than the average for the 20th century.
